Fritz Fremgen - Stutsman County State’s Attorney & North Dakota State’s Attorney Association Past President
Fritz Fremgen is the Stutsman County State’s Attorney and has served in that role since 1999. Prior to that Fritz served as an Assistant Stutsman County State’s Attorney under now District Court Judge John Greenwood. During his time as State’s Attorney and Assistant State’s Attorney, Fritz has handled every type of criminal and civil matter that can come before that office.
While attending college at Bemidji, Fritz also chose to serve his country by enrolling in the Reserve Officer Training Corps. After completing college and finishing up his law school career at the University of North Dakota, he was then placed on active duty with the US Army Judge Advocate General's Corps.
His goals for the NDSAA are to reduce the number of times prosecutors reinvent the wheel by having good briefs and forms easy to locate, involve assistant states attorneys who have tremendous talent and vibrancy more, and use electronic communication to bring prosecutors on opposite ends of the state as close as the office next door.
When not in the courtroom you can find the avid bicyclist riding the roads or spending time with his family.
Kara Schmitz Olson - Cass County Assistant State’s Attorney & North Dakota State’s Attorney President
Kara has served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Cass County since 2005. Before that she served as the City Prosecutor for the City of Fargo and as a Judicial Law Clerk to the judges in the South Central Judicial District. She attended UND Law School and has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Iowa. In her free time, Kara enjoys spending time with her family.
Meredith Huseby Larson - Grand Forks Assistant State’s Attorney & North Dakota State’s Attorneys Association Vice-President
Meredith Larson is a graduate of the University of North Dakota School of Law. Graduating in 2006 with distinction, she was also a member of Order of the Coif, Order of the Barristers, Moot Court Board, and participated in many organizations within the law school including Student Trial Lawyers Association and Law Women’s Caucus. Since graduating from law school, Meredith has been an Assistant State’s Attorney at the Grand Forks County State’s Attorney’s Office. She specializes in the prosecution of domestic violence and sexual assaults. Meredith has attended numerous national, regional, and local trainings on the prosecution of these types of crimes and her dedication to the prosecution of these offenses has been recognized by the Community Violence Intervention Center with the “Peacemaker Award” in 2008.
Meredith is married to Joel Larson, who is an attorney with the Camrud, Maddock, Olson, and Larson firm in Grand Forks, and has two young boys. When they aren’t chasing after their kids, Meredith and Joel enjoy running and biking and anything the outdoors has to offer.

Ryan Norrell - LaMoure County State's Attorney & North Dakota State's Attorneys Association Secretary
Ryan Norrell is a solo attorney in LaMoure, ND with a satellite office in Kulm, ND. He was elected to be LaMoure County State’s Attorney in November 2010 and took office in January 2011.
Ryan is active in the community as a member of the LaMoure Lions, the Knights of Columbus and his church. He is a graduate of the University of North Dakota School of Law and received his bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota in Winona, MN.
He, his wife and children make their home in LaMoure.
